How to play: Blocks
Place the pieces and clear rows, columns and squares. No clock, no rush.
- You have three pieces to hand, placed however suits you best: drag the piece onto the board, or tap it to select it and then tap the cell where you want it.
- Before you drop it, the board shows where it would land; if it doesn’t fit, it shows hatched and isn’t placed. Drop it outside the board and the piece goes back where it was, nothing happens.
- With a keyboard: 1, 2 and 3 pick a piece, the arrow keys move around the board and Enter places it.
- When you complete a row, a column or one of the nine three-by-three squares, it clears.
- Once you have placed all three pieces, three more arrive. Pieces don’t rotate, and that is part of the fun.
- The game ends when none of the remaining pieces fits anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a timer, or does anything fall?
- No, neither, and that is what sets it apart from the usual block games. There is no rush: you work out where the piece goes and you place it.
- Can the pieces be rotated?
- No. That is part of the difficulty: it makes you look at the gap before choosing the piece, instead of forcing things in.
- How is it scored?
- Every cell you place is worth one point. Completing a line or a square is worth eighteen, and if you clear several in the same move each one is worth double the previous: eighteen, thirty-six, seventy-two.
- Can it be played with a keyboard?
- Yes, entirely. Keys 1, 2 and 3 pick a piece, the arrow keys move around the board and Enter places it where you are.
- Does this one change every day?
- No: play it whenever you like, as many times as you want. What is saved is the game in progress and your best score.
