How to play: Medium sudoku
The sweet spot between a warm-up and a proper fight.
- Fill the nine-by-nine grid with numbers from 1 to 9.
- Every row, every column and every three-by-three region must contain all nine numbers with none repeated.
- The numbers already in place are givens and cannot be changed.
- If you get stuck, use notes to jot down the candidates for a cell, and Check to see whether anything is wrong.
Frequently asked questions
- Does every sudoku have a single solution?
- Yes. Before it is published, every sudoku goes through a validator that checks it admits no more than one solution. One with two solutions would be a broken sudoku.
- What is the difference between the three levels?
- How many givens the starting grid has: easy comes with about 45, medium with about 34 and hard with about 26. The fewer the givens, the more deduction it takes.
- How do notes work?
- Press Notes (or the N key) and the numbers you type are written small in the corner of the cell, without filling it in. Typing a normal number clears that cell’s notes.
